Meet Allison

Allison Cath is an attorney focusing on elder law, estate planning and business law.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Northwestern University and her Juris Doctorate from Valparaiso University School of Law. She started her career in banking with Northern Trust Bank in Chicago in trust administration. But shortly thereafter, she and her husband relocated to Greencastle, Indiana and began a long association with DePauw University. She held numerous administrative positions but spent most of her career as a math professor and Director of Academic Support, where she oversaw the Quantitative Reasoning Center, Speech Center and Writing Center. In addition, she personally counselled first-generation students, students of underrepresented populations and students with academic challenges.

Allison continued her career in higher education at Ivy Tech, where she continued to teach mathematics. In tandem with fellow math professors in her department, she authored a math workbook used statewide for all students taking developmental math courses. Her final assignment in higher education was at Valparaiso University, where she was a math professor and Director of the Institutional Research Board, responsible for reviewing all student research proposals to ensure compliance with university and federal statute standards.

While working full-time, she began to fulfill a lifelong dream of being an attorney. She was part of the Honors program and a member of the Elder Law Society and Tax Law Society.

Allison is married to Tom. Together they have three sons (Jim, Will and David) and two grandsons. She is an avid sports fan of all sorts and loves all her granddogs as well! She and Tom recently downsized to a house in downtown Valparaiso previously owned by a master gardener. She looks forward to taking on the challenge of keeping the spectacular garden up to standards!

“I truly enjoy working with families as they navigate estate planning. It's so rewarding to see the impact proper planning can have on their lives. Being a good listener and problem solver gives me the tools to make a difference.”
